28/04 – SOLEMN (TAIWAN) + CAPTIVES + WE ARE NOT ROBOTS
FRIDAY 28TH OF APRIL
恕 (Solemn) is a Taiwanese Metal band from Tainan, founded in 2003. Their musical style combines elements of Metalcore, Melodic Death Metal and Thrash Metal.
The bands first album had a sound combining Metalcore and Melodeath elements. In the following years the band had gigs all over Taiwan and became one of the most famous Metal bands in the country.
In 2011 drummer Coolio was replaced by Shiauyu, often called ‘drum goddess’ by the band. In 2012 vocalist Wendy left the band and was later replaced by Evelyn Tofu in 2013. The 2014 album Devastated Ruins entered new paths and left the band’s Metalcore roots. The style is more fast and feature Thrash Metal riffs, but still has a modern sound with both, clear and harsh female vocals.
Captives are a ferocious hard-hitting Rock ‘n Punk ‘n Roll band from Melbourne. In 2018 Captives released their debut album ‘ Over the Rainbow’ charting at number fifty-six on the iTunes Charts, which was backed up with some hectic touring around the country and support slots for bands such as The Damned, Pulled Apart By Horses, Cog, Shihad, The Mark of Cain, The Hard-Ons and more.
Shortly after the band went back to the studio to track two new digital single releases with the latest hit ‘Tommy Gun’ gaining masses of attention from Spotify playlists around the globe… even making the cover of the ‘Rock Out’ playlist in Waynes world type scenes landing in the company of the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Green Day and The Darkness.
After three successful tours in recent years throughout Asia , the band have recently signed to Itichigo records in China and will be touring extensively throughout Australasia in 2023 with new music to be released imminently.
WE ARE NOT ROBOTS
Formed in 2016, Sydney’s We Are Not Robots has returned with new music and a new line-up. Punishing new singles, “Pure Nothing” and “If You Want To Talk About It” kick off what is promising to be a busy 2023 for the recently retooled band which now consists of Pete Konakov (vocals & guitar), Nathan O’Hara (guitar) Rory Safe (bass) and Dom Lynn (drums).
Driven by a synth line resembling a speeding ambulance exploding in a sea of strobes with the heartbeat of its patient palpitating in the debris beneath, Pure Nothing is as immediate as it is cathartic. It has a sense of urgency that has become the band’s trademark – all the ferocity without losing any of their finer subtleties. This is WANR at their absolute most urgent.
“If You Want To Talk About It” is what would happen if 90’s era Weezer stole a car and went on a joyride with early Interpol whilst picking up some newer juggernauts like Fangclub and The Flatliners along the way, just for good measure.
OTHER STUFF THATS ON.
