Recreate Meals From The Old Fitz At Home With ‘Fitz It Yourself’ Lockdown Offering From Head Chef Anna Ugarte-Carral

lockdown that little bit easier with a range of meals Sydneysiders can enjoy at home, while also allowing them to be part of the creation process.

Created by head chef Anna Ugarte-Carral and her team, the specially designed “Fitz It Yourself” menu allows people to recreate some of the magic of Old Fitz at home, with meals like Duck confit with pommes puree and frisee salad ($30), Honey bug and prawn marinara with pappardelle ($30) and a sticky prune pudding with custard for dessert ($15).

With an à la carte range consisting of entrées, mains and desserts, each dish on the menu is an almost complete meal – and here’s where the magic happens. Each item comes with an instruction card on how to prepare the dish.

While most meals will be cooked and only need a re-heat, some dishes will require home cooks to boil the pasta, bake a potato, add garnish and so on. Portion sizes are for one, or you can choose to order a pre-designed pack for two, or four people.

Although the team at The Old Fitzroy will provide all the necessary ingredients and instructions, there is certainly room for some creativity and flair so home chefs can truly make the dish their own. The pub and bistro is also offering a bespoke wine list that was created to complement the takeaway offering, including a range of sparkling, white, orange/rosé and red. Ugarte-Carral said:

“We wanted to bring some comfort and joy to the Sydney community during this difficult time. By offering people the option to eat like they’re at a restaurant while stuck at home, we hope to bring a bit of normality to everyone’s life – even if life is anything but normal right now.”

A walk-in takeaway offering of Fitz It Yourself, including wine and beer, will also be available but is subject to availability on the day, so it is best for people to order online to not miss out.

The pub has also extended its one free meal per day for underemployed hospitality workers to The Old Fitzroy after offering the same at its sister sites, The Duke of Enmore and The Oxford Tavern. Underemployed hospitality workers can grab a free fried fish sambo every day of lockdown.

Meanwhile, they will also be selling 6 packs of Hazy In Love lager, with all proceeds going to The Old Fitz Theatre to support the production company through this difficult period.

The ordering portal will be open from Tuesday 29 June, and Sydneysdiers can order for next-day delivery and pickup from several set-time windows. As the food will not be delivered in cold packs, all food needs to be consumed on the day of delivery/pickup – so plan accordingly!
