Assistant Bar Manager
Odd Culture Group is breaking new ground with its newest development. Wine bar & bottle shop Odd Culture Fitzroy. Seated on Fitzroy’s Brunswick Street, the natural booze concept is led by Group Beverage Manager Jordan Blackman, and is the realisation of the Group’s marked focus on natural wine, craft beer and spirits made by producers with conscious farming efforts, working sustainably, organically and/or biodynamically, offering an honest expression of terroir, using native yeasts, bacteria and cultures.
This is where you come in. We’re calling for a seasoned, bright and ambitious Assistant Bar Manager to coordinate and oversee the successful operation of the wine bar & store
Sweeping up a handful of accolades since our inception in 2021, including Timeout Sydney’s #1 Bar and a Hat in this year’s Good Food Guide, our bar and restaurant in Newtown boasts a serious and extensively curated food and beverage offering; each exploring all things fermentation, focussed on both presenting new creations and innovating on timeless classics.
We’ve got an opportunity for a hospitality management professional to join our bar team, which involves leading a roster of dedicated bartenders to create fantastic experiences through exceptional product execution, and with the breadth of beer, wine and cocktail knowledge to back it up in guest service. With such an extensive offering, you’d be expected to know your way across the wine tome as well as you can pour a Melbourne Bitter and work the prep & batch of a ferment-heavy cocktail program, but guidance and mentorship from experienced senior management can bridge the gaps for a passionate learner.
Skills, responsibilities & experience
- Creating positive guest experiences with thorough and extensive beer, wine, and cocktail knowledge
- Maintaining accountability for the presentation of the physical store, ensuring that the wine bar & bottle shop is always held to company standards and visually appealing
- Professional and experienced leadership approach
- Working with seasonal produce and ferments to develop seasonal cocktail menus
- Passion for fermentation and experimental techniques
- Ordering, stocktake, and cellar management experience
- Well-versed in venue compliance, including RSA management and licensing
- Critical and creative thinking
- Bottle shop experience a bonus
If you have previous experience in a high-volume cocktail bar and can work your way around complex prep and batching work to consistently deliver on innovative and experimental product specs, this kind of beverage program will suit you well. This is a professional hospitality environment, and a great opportunity to work with a creative and collaborative group of experienced managers and staff
